An amazing location at the foot of the Mendips

The Woodborough Inn, Winscombe

Located at the foot of the Mendip Hills, and only 100 yards from the beautiful “Strawberry Line”, The Woodborough Inn is the perfect place to stay for those looking to experience the great outdoors. There is plenty of walking & cycling on offer plus the more extreme pursuits such as climbing, abseiling, caving, mountain biking and even a dry ski slope.

For the anglers there are some superb fishing opportunities at Blagdon & Chew Valley lakes and horse riding is available in the near village of Shipham.

On-site we have a safe area to store bicycles.

Perfect for visiting Cheddar Gorge

At almost 400 feet deep and three miles long, Cheddar Gorge is England’s largest gorge.

Visit Gough’s Cave, Cox’s Cave, Jacob’s Ladder, Museum of Prehistory and Beyond the View which takes you on a cinematic journey through Cheddar Gorge. There is also a 3 mile The Cliff-Top Walk.

Cycle the Strawberry Line

The Strawberry Line is mainly traffic-free, with no steep gradients and only 9 miles long, making it ideal for a family day out. Along the way you’ll appreciate the beauty and variety of Somerset as you pass cider apple orchards, wildlife-rich wetlands, steep wooded valleys and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge.

The entire path has a limestone dust that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. It is used primarily for walking and cycling, though horse riding is permitted along a one mile section between Dolemoor Lane and Carditch Drove, which is between Congresbury and Sandford.
